My metaphor: Culture Shock
I have decided to frame my ePortfolio within a “Culture Shock” metaphor because while I have been working on my MET, I have also been living in Colombia. This has involved many changes in the way I approach the things I do every day. Things such as ¨Customs¨, ¨Language¨, ¨Music¨ and ¨Food¨ are elements of a culture and how I navigate these in terms of my culture shock is shown in the ¨Adaptation¨ section of the portfolio. I believe that my reaction to ¨Culture Shock¨ in Colombia is very similar to the way I adapted to MET and the application of my learning to my professional life. I have included recuerdos or souvenirs of my experiences in this new MET culture. The term recuerdos is especially meaningful because, while it means souvenirs, it can also refer to memories, which are of far more value to me than any material item.
To find out more about my ePortfolio planning process, please read my ePortfolio Proposal. It also has the grading rubric that I designed for it based on my goals. Please view the ¨Getting Around¨ section for a tour of my eP. |
This photo was taken on the amazing beach of Palomino in La Guajira, Colombia. The photo above is my favourite photo from a trip where my two best friends from Canada, Katie and Lima, came to visit me in Colombia. I had the honour of being the giving them a two week tour of the country and culture which I had adapted to.
