FeaR: A commonality
Colombia is a country that many people fear and the same can be said of technology in education. People fear Colombia because of what they see on the news about the FARC and crimes, while many people fear that technology is dangerous and a threat to our educational system. The reason these two ares are so important to me is that they both have so much potential. There are endless possibilities available that still need to be explored and ways they could make the world a better place. Fear should not stop one from visiting (or moving to) Colombia with all its promise for the future, just as it should not stop one from examining technology as a way to improve education. Yes, there is a need for some precautions, as with any time a new option is considered, but the hope for a better future is something that we cannot overlook. I have seen both the good and the bad of both Colombia and the use of technology in education, but I firmly believe that the positive outweighs the negative, especially when people with constructive ideas come together. As the slogan of Colombia´s tourism campaign says, ¨the answer is Colombia¨, I would argue that in solving many of our problems in education, the answer is technology!
